To whom it may concern,
On October 18, 2023, I spoke to Verizon representatives to inquire about a sudden $81.04 increase in my monthly bill (now at $292.64). The conversation started poorly because the Verizon employee couldn't figure out how to properly answer the phone and was forced to hang-up and immediately call back four different times. Doesn't send a very good message when a phone service provider doesn't even know how to use a phone.
I was informed that my sudden rate increase was due to Verizon cancelling the federal civilian employee discount option. I found this very disappointing considering I am a federal employee. I have been a customer for many years and even authorized the use of Verizon the federal employees I oversee as part of my job with the federal government. This sudden increase and lack of concern by Verizon employees has made it clear you only care about maximizing profit and have little, if any, concern for the actual customers.
I initially assumed that I could use my status as a first responder to work-around this new restriction. I quickly learned, however, that being a first responder on natural events such as the recent hurricanes, fires, and earthquakes did not qualify. Your first responder discounts only apply to firefighters, police officers, EMT, and EMS. They definitely deserve a discount, but classifying someone as a first responder shouldn't be so restrictive.
I will let my staff know of your fee increases and restrictions on any discounts previously approved. I will also look at phasing out the use of Verizon within my organization because of the recent events. There is no need to contact me for some short-term fix or temporary promotion. Your staff have made it very clear that individual customers are not important. Fortunately, your competitors seem eager to grow and provide reasonable prices.
I tried to file a complaint with customer service, but that wasn't an option on their confusing website.
