Service interruption before due date

I got behind on my bill and my May bill totaled over $900 (3 months). I paid $660 this billing period and the remaining balance is less than just my May bill total.  I had a promise to pay created with the due date of May 30th before I paid the $660 and  stayed in effect and wouldn't let me cancel but I didn't care cause only my May balance was due and isn't due until the 31st (today is the 28th). I received an email and text today saying that my service would be interrupted within 24 hours due to non payment. This can't be correct because my bill is caught up and isn't due until May 31st. So I did the online chat to figure out why I got that text.  Turns out, when your make a payment and you have a past due amount, they apply your payment to the most recent month ensuring that your account remains past due for a long as possible. So now my phone and my kids phones are going to be cut off by tomorrow and my bill isn't actually due for another 3 days. Verizon is cheating customers into paying fees and reconnect fees by twisting the payment process. Also I was told Friday by an agent that my promise to pay would protect my service but then today I'm told that they are cutting it off with a promise to pay in place and less than a total month due. I knew I should have switched to another service provider and now I'm looking very seriously about who I will be switching to.
