Set up fee charges

On October 7th I went in to the store to move my two T-Mobile lines to my parents existing Verizon account. I was told I needed to pay taxes on the new Iphone 16's and the activation fees. When the next bill came, I was charged the activation fees. When I called customer service I was told that the charge on the day of the transaction was a set up fee of $49.99. So for me to become a new customer with Verizon, it cost me $119.99! The term "set up fee" was never used at the store. The only reason I switched to Verizon was to help my parents with a the benefit of the multi-line discount. I was aware of the activation fees but if I would have known about the bogus set up fee, I would have never switched from T-Mobile, especially because they were offering me free Iphone 16's also to not cancel the account. In addition, the representative added the 100 GB mobile hotspot "perk" to all four of the lines without our knowledge or consent. If there was anyway I could cancel Verizon and go back to T-Mobile I would in a heart beat. Unfortunately I would have to pay the balances on the "free" I phone 16's. Never again!

If the store was a 3rd party store and not a corporate one, then they could've charged you some fees which Verizon usually doesn't charge.  Or if you had the employees transfer your data for you to the new phones, there's a service charge for that.

If the hotspot perk is a separate thing which is not part of your service plan, you ought to be able to cancel or unsubscribe to that perk in your account.

Devices can be returned to Verizon if it's been less than 30 days, if you are willing to pay a restocking fee, but you are now past that mark.

It was a corporate store. My point was to let people know of the fees to switch to Verizon. I was not told about a set up fee, just activation fees which I was aware and willing to pay. Adding the hotspot was also without our knowledge and dishonest in my opinion. My parents existing phones never had that so it wasn't just added to the new lines but to all four. They were taken off but for people that may not pay attention to their bill to be aware off unauthorized "perks" added on. Thank you so much for your reply!

It is sad that Verizon has started charging for customer service and customer support. I went int a Verizon store to upgrade and ended up getting the deal with the watch and tablet. I knew nothing of the set up charge.  The person helping me offered to set the devices up and told me over and over if I didnโ€™t let her do it customer service may not do it right.  She never once mentioned a cost.  She said the toner was out and I could net have a receipt printed.  I saw the fees on the emailed receipt and caught it before I left the store the charged me a fee for each device 100 dollars.  They refunded me 60 of it but this is just a way for them to pull the wool over our eyes as customers. They wonโ€™t stop until we quit buying lphones though.  This is such a shame to see in this forum the abuse of this fee.  Verizon do better.
