Unexpected bill with unpleasant surprise fee at the end.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share an incredibly frustrating experience I had with Verizon's billing that left me with an unexpected and unpleasant surprise fee.

I've had G5 home internet service with Verizon for two years, and I've always used autopayment without any issues. Recently, I moved to another apartment in the same city, only to find out that Verizon doesn't offer service at my new place. On May 3rd, I called customer service to cancel my internet, effective May 6th. The representative told me I would be charged $4.84 for the partial month right away. With all the chaos of moving, I didnโ€™t give this much attention.

On May 21st, I received a payment confirmation email from Verizon for the $4.84. Shortly after, I closed the checking account linked to my Verizon autopay. Then, out of nowhere, I received a bill in the mail from Verizon for the $4.84 plus an additional charge of $26.12 for the current month. Confused, I called Verizon support.

The representative informed me that the $4.84 payment had been canceled on May 23rd! Apparently, the extra charge of $26.12 was due to a payment return fee. After some back and forth, he managed to cancel the extra charge (though I still see it pending on my account, but he assured me it would be removed within 24 hours). I then asked to pay the $4.84 immediately using my credit card. He sent me a payment link via email, and I confirmed the payment amount of $4.84.

After completing the payment, he dropped the bombshell that there was a $10 fee for phone payments. I was furious! I could have easily paid online without this ridiculous fee. When I asked to remove the fee, he said removing it would trigger another $25 return fee.

What is going on? This whole experience has been a nightmare, and I am seriously considering never using Verizon again for any service.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? How did you deal with it? I'm at my wits' end with this company!
