I returned both my router and DVR to verizon in the same box via UPS. For some reason, I got a letter today saying the DVR hasn't been returned and only the router. However, I had a notification on my account months ago that everything had been returned. It has been months since I have cancelled my account and this is the first I am hearing of this.

Hopefully you saved those documents saying all was returned?
you can go here to file an online complaint http://www.fcc.gov which may or may not assist. Or http://www.bbb.org which has better success.
you could call your states Public Utilities Commission or Public Service Commission who regulates Verizon’s services and has quicker resolution to such issues.
i have another option I can tell you in private since I cannot discuss the legal aspects on the forum per the terms or service.
