Verizon is charging me for returned phone and now trying to state the box returned was empty

.I purchased the phone on August 17, tried to cancel the next day, and was told that I could not and to return it. The service was never activated, and the phone never opened. I paid $70.00 in taxes upfront and tried to return to the local Verizon store, and they said I had to mail it back with the return label. After numerous attempts with the agent online, she sent me a return label, and I returned the phone unopened. Verizon received it on August 28th at 8:31 AM. I have now how to contact you guys week by week only to be told that it was still processing, then they saw it was returned and to wait a week, then told that the charge would be removed in the next 24 hours, that was on 9/26/23 at 9:07 AM with Alexis. Two days later you charged my credit card $1108.33. My card company reversed the charges because I had proof it was delivered, and now you are charging me late fees on top of the $1108.33 for a phone that I never opened, used or activated. I have never had to use so much time and energy on an issue in my life.  I have a special needs child and I do not have the time to keep dealing with this issue as he is my main priority. I would appreciate this being taken care of ASAP.

Update: Now they are trying to state that phone box was empty after they had already verified that it was received and checked in.

DOCUMENT THE WEIGHT OF THE SHIPPED PKG!  I don't know how the return system works--- but find (and PRINT, of course) all the documentation you can access.  Contact the carrier, open a claim--- spend a little more time to do anything and everything you can do.  There should be records of the shipping weight of the package.  I think the tracking info (when the pkg was on its way to you) would have this info too.  Much love to you and your son โค๏ธ
