The number is legit. Verify on VZW website. But the robot can't help you. Say "Agent" until you get a human. Human agent says you need to upgrade your plan. You read him the verizon msg saying you don't. Waste 20 minutes with repetitive hold music. You are not eligible because you have a discount already. Why is VZW sending out IMs that read like spam and are not true because you are not eligible?

Rival services have some compelling offers to trade in my four phones.

Received the same message today. Called 611 from my Verizon phone and asked for Agent after going through the automated system.  I was eligible for the $20/mo discount and the Vzn agent confirmed no plan changes. Sent me a review and confirmation email that I confirmed. Thanks for posting some of the details above. Very helpful!
