Verizon sent me to collections, for someone else's bill.

I called verizon to have someone removed from my account a while back. This was accomplished with little to no stress and I was able to have their own bill sent to them without affecting my account. I asked, multiple people, if there was any chance the account could negatively affect me in the future, knowing the person, and was assured that it would in no way reflect on my account. Twelve months later, I go to upgrade my phones and lo and behold, the system puts a stop to the upgrade for outstanding balance. After the in store agents can't find out what's happening, we call the verizon help desk. After 20 minutes of digging they also can't seem to find a single missing payment or any outstanding balance on my account. After an hour of researching goes by, we find that they have allowed the other account to negatively impact my account. Outstanding balance of $307.00. I told them this was the responsibility of the other individual and that I was assured this would not ever be the case on my account. They agreed and resolved the issue, stating that it was a mistake on their end. They updated the account and I was able to proceed with my upgrades. Now, here I am looking to move into a house and working to secure a loan, when I discover that one day my 800+ credit rating has dropped over 100 points because verizon has falsely sent me to collections for someone else's debt. This needs to be fixed verizon....

We're disappointed to learn of this experience, wolfman_joe. When a number is removed form your account and the new Account Holder has created their own account, you are no longer responsible for that account. You would be responsible for any previous balance that was in your name before the change. Just to confirm, was a transfer of service completed where the user of the line put their name on the account to remove your name? Please tell us more about how you were responsible for that account. -Danielle

I was the account holder and this person was put on a separate account, or so I was told, that would not affect my account in any way. I was told they were responsible for the bill, they would receive the bill at their address, I had no access to their account and could not see any account details. I was GUARANTEED this would not affect me negatively in the event this person failed to hold up their end. This person called to cancel and buy out their phone but was not required by Verizon to pay the outstanding balance. I was never made aware of the cancellation, the outstanding balance or any of the details and had no way of knowing the situation because I had no ability to see the sub account. This was completely out of my control and Verizon provided ZERO notice to the main account holder of the situation. I do not miss payments. I only found out about this when I got a notice from credit report that a collection was filed against me. How is it possible for me to pay you when I am given ABSOLUTELY ZERO NOTICE? This is unacceptable behavior. I have also been on the phone with your teams for 3 days and each rep keeps hanging up on me or putting me on permanent hold.
