I had a similar experience. I used to have a corp account, but got auto converted to my personal a/c after I resigned from my job. Then when I terminated the phone service, Verizon submitted the collection of early termination to Credit Agency. It was very bad. I tried to reach them to reason this and I actually paid the amount, but they would not remove the collection.
It is very frustrating and unfair.
