What is the real due date?

I received an email the other day from Verizon stating: โ€œPayment on your Verizon account ending in XXX-XX01 was due 5/10/2016 in the amount of $181.72.โ€ I pay most if not all of my bills using my bankโ€™s online banking system and when I checked to see if the Verizon Communications bill had been paid I saw that it was listed as โ€œPending Payment 05/18/2016 $181.72. I thought to myself, now where did I get the idea that the due date of my payment was 05/18/2016. Since I had already shredded the rest of the paper bill I received with the exception of the โ€œSend this stub with your paymentโ€ section which I keep for my records, I had to download my most recent paper bill from the Verizon website. What I saw there was a statement underneath the apparent actual due date that read: โ€œTo avoid a late payment charge, pay the total due by May 18, 2016. For TV, internet and wireless services, the late payment charge is $5 or1.5% of your total due, whichever is greater. For all other services, the late payment charge is 1.25%โ€. This is apparently where I got the idea that my payment due date was 05/18/2016. Hereโ€™s an idea, why not clearly state the due date of the payment on the โ€œSend this stub with your paymentโ€ section of the bill like almost everyone of the other establishments I make payments to, including light, gas, and water bills. Instead every month I go hunting for the due date on my Verizon bill and last month I apparently saw the wrong one. This would be an easy fix and would save you from sending me deadbeat emails telling me I didnโ€™t pay my bill. You will get your payment on 05/18/2016 and from now I will use the date โ€œTo avoid a late payment charge, pay the total due byโ€ date to pay subsequent bills until you see the light and make the change I suggested.

I'm surprised that my post about the due date of payments did not strike a chord with other Verizon customers. I am also surprised that, based on the fact that I assume that Verizon reps monitor these forums, that my post did not elicit a reply from one of them. I guess I'm the only one who has a problem with this and that Verizon doesn't give a hoot about what I think. Oh well.

Verizon does not monitor these boards for technical or account issues. If you have a problem or question, you need to contact them directly.

No.. your NOT the only one.. It happens to me as well.. It's idiotic that they do this the way that they do.. and although it is 6 years later, nothing has changed.. I get the same dumb deadbeat messages.. even though I set the bill up to be paid by the day thaey tell me to .. and I went through the same process you did to discover that they use two different dates on their bills unlike any other company.. a communication company hat comunicates poorly.. classic !

The due date is the due date.  In some areas they are required to delay charging late charges.  And for autopay users there is a third date (the date it will be paid from your autopay account).  This is no different from a bunch of other bills I have.

I believe charge and other loan accounts can, in most areas, charge if you don't pay by the due date.
