Your old, broken phone is worth more at Verizon?

JMHO, but I believe the website ads saying "$1000 per trade-in/promo credit [...] per phone" ought to say up to $1000 per trade-in. The ads make it sound like everyone bringing in a trade-in will get $1000. This is rather hard to believe. I am willing to bet if I brought in my budget phone (yes, it's in good condition and works well, but it retails for $200 brand new), I would not get five times the retail value for it. Or if someone smashes their phone or drops it in a pot of chocolate sauce to where the vermin would like it more than anyone else would per a certain ad currently on TV, said destroyed phones would not be worth $1000...
