Paid the final bill - actually paid it twice by mistake and have the receipts from my bank but Verizon has sent me to a collection agency, wont talk to me, collection agency is contacting Verizon for me who takes a month to answer - in the meantime my credit rating is down by 100+ points - once they correct this it will take another month or two I suppose for the credit bureaus to fix - Watch out for Verizon - TERRIBLE customer service

You must dispute it with the three credit bureaus yourself. They in turn must investigate your claim and if you upload proof to them they will remove it from your report. Don't rely on a collection agency to do this. In fact collection agencies cannot pursue the matter if you send a cease and desist letter with copies showing payment.
