3G coverage

My Blackberry Storm 9530 inducates that I am only on 1XEV vs 3G. Do I have change any setting? I've looked at the 3G coverage map and our area clearly has 3G

That is 3 G. That is the upper data network.

If you are in 1rtx depending where you are that will be a tower / network limitation where you are.  How ever if your phone is saying EVDO/ Ev then you are in 3 g.
