Hi,
See my post at http://community.vzw.com/t5/BlackBerry-Devices/Data-Usage/td-p/325472 for an answer. Also, it answers how to check your data usage question in your other post.

I have provided some information below that may be helpful using WiFi and not 3G.
Step 1 – Ensure WiFi is on. Instruction article below:
http://support.vzw.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=33191
Step 2 - To use just WiFi, turn off Mobile Network. (Instructions below)
-Press Menu
-Select Manage Connections
-Mobile Network (unchecked is off)
**If you select Turn All Connections Off, this will disable both the 3G and the WiFi.
Step 3 - To setup a WiFi connection I have provided the article below:
http://support.vzw.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=33149
**If you do not need to setup a connection, just connect to a local Wifi network.
