One concept I will never understand...  I know more people that have left VZW because they want a newer phone but are locked into something that costs them a fortune to upgrade outside of the their 1 or 2 year period.
 My advice...go buy a used one.  My 8830 is just over 2 years old, I travel every week domestic and international...it has not had an easy life...but works great, with the original battery working like new.

This is standard for the industry. Wireless carriers sell phones at a loss because they make their money on the monthly charges. It would not be profitable to sell phones at a loss to the same person repeatedly within a contract.
