We new to the black berry world.  Can you tell me if we have gotten the blackberry from a friend to use for our daughter whose phone has broken : Do we have to have it connected to the internet???  We just want her to be able to text and send picture messages.  She has gotten our bill to the point of dispair so she is only limited to the simple things.  Is there a way to just use it as a phone and messaging tool.

A mod really nees to make a sticky with some FAQS here. Yes you will have to have it connected to the interenet at least the 29.99 plan on top of your voice plan. There is no way around it it is a Verizon thing for Blackberrys.

If you have the Black Berry 8830 World Edition, you cannot send and receive picture messages.  The phone does not have a camera, one of the few that does not.  Without the camera phone software, sending and receiving pictures is done via the verizon website.  Hope this reaches you in time
