Hi tried to add the active sync software. After downloading and plugging in my storm to my mac. A message came up saying wiping. Now I have an error message that says "Reload Software 523" Verizon wireless store said that could not help.

You can try reloading the handheld software from http://vzam.net/blackberry. Sorry you will need a Windows machine to do it. If your Mac can run Windows, that will work. If that does not work, call VZW tech support for assistance.
As for syncing, BlackBerry has PocketMac which they will support. There may be others out there, but I would stick with what RIM supports just for the sake of ease.
