My wife has a Blackberry Storm and says there is a small 3 with what looks like a globe next to it underneath the time/date on her main page. She doesn't remember it being there when she first got the phone.
Does anyone know what it is and how to remove it?

You probably have an application notification of some kind. For example, when I have a couple messages from my Facebook application, I will see the number "2" in white and the the Facebook icon (a white colored "f" in a blue box).
To clear them, I have to open the Facebook application and read my messages.
Thus, my guess is that you need to find whatever application the Globe pertains to, open it, and read your messages. That should cause the number & globe to disappear.
