I have the new Blackberry Storm global phone. We're going to the UK (England, Scotland, and Wales) this fall, once it's activated for international calling. Does anyone have experience with the day-to-day usage? (I believe the UK is a GSM system, right?)
1) RECEIVING: Do people in the US have to know we're in the UK, and thus use a country calling prefix? Or is it really as simple as "they call the normal number, and the system finds me"??? That is, if my number is 410-333-4444, they just dial that and get me?
2) CALLING: Here I've found instructions:
***************
Dialing InstructionsTo US or Other North American Numbering Plan (NANP) Destination
Roaming Country Exit Code + Destination Country Code + Area Code + Phone Number
Example: "+" + 1 + 212 +123-4567
Note: To check voice mail, dial your mobile number with the area code using the pattern above.
To a Non-North American Numbering Plan (NANP) Destination
Roaming Country Code Exit Code + Destination Country Code + Area Code + Phone Number
Example: "+" + 44 + 1234 + 567890 (e.g. calling UK)
Depending on your device, press and hold "0" or "*" to display the "+" symbol. The "+" symbol automatically inserts the exit code for the country from which you are calling.
***********
Question: so I really just dial "+14105556666" to get 410-555- 6666 in the US?
And "+441234567890" to get 1234-567890 in the UK?
3) ISSUES: I've seen some posts from folks whose phones didn't quite connect when they arrived. Any such problems with the Storm in the UK?
4) Finally, EMAIL: I've heard this works seamlessly. Has that also been other folks' experience?
Thanks for all your help.
