Curve 8530 with wifi

I have been doing my research trying to find an answer about using WiFi

for email with the 8530 and even Verizon couldn't answer my question

when I called yesterday.

I want to know if there is no voice signal can you still send

and receive emails with WiFi .  The reason I am asking

is I will be out of the country for a week in January and do not have the need

to make or receive calls but would like to send and receive emails.  I know

I could get a world phone, but I do not need the voice coverage, and email

through wifi would be perfect for me.

Thanks for any insite!

Hi,

One way to test your theory.  Go to Mobile Connections on your phone and turn off Mobile Network and then turn on WiFi and see if you can send or receive email.

I should have been more clear.  I am researching if I should upgrade to the 8530 so i can not test it.

Anyone out there with this phone want to test it for me.

Thanks Doc!

Ahhh, I understand.  This will be interesting to see if someone with a WiFi enabled Blackberry would be willing to try.

So I have another question, is data used over wifi tracked as usage?

I was told that the 8530 will send and receive data over wifi when there

is no voice signal so that's not a problem

I was also told there would be a usage fee per mb for using wifi out of the country.

seems so backwards to me...maybe the ipod touch is the solution for my

emailing through wifi.

No it won't, Because using 1XEV it is transferring straight to your phone, Under WIFI you are not recognized by the internet as a phone per say, Just an IP address! There for your Mail setup can't find you. You could D/L an app to go get your mail though.
