Can someone please help clarify what exactly causes Data usage on the Blackberry? For example my husband's phone has been getting Data KB sometimes several times an hour. For example starting at 12:16 am, 12:34am, 12:44am, 2:51am, 3:33am, 5:32am, 5:39am, 5:43am, 5:54am, 6:02am, 6:28am, 6:35am 7:01am, 7:20am, 9:27am, 9:36am, 9:57am, 10:02am, 10:08am, 10:20am, 10:29am, 1035am........etc.... well you get the picture. On some of these times he is sleeping and other times listed here, he was in a class and not on the phone?????
WHAT COULD BE CAUSING SO MUCH DATA USAGE???

He would be getting emails during those times, or maybe he leaves the web browser open, (Menu>Close)

Hi,
I agree with the other users here, if he as a program such as a weather program, it usually updates the current conditions every 15 mintues or so by default. Also, the device is probably checking email accounts for messages.

It is definately the phone reaching out through its data connection for what could be multiple reasons. Email check/download, weather updates, sports scores, BES checks if his phone is connected to that, etc.

Is it possible for the Mobile IM or Instant Messenger to be generating these data times?
Much appreciated

BES stands for Blackberry Enterprise Server. It links your Blackberry phone with "work" emails. Costs about $44 monthly, is unlimited. Similar to BIS: Blackberry Internet Service for personal email, and browser, cost $29.99 and is unlimited also.

Thanks for the info....
So regular e-mails that are sent to our e-mail address also use DATA? I was not aware that every e-mail uses DATA.
