Does the Blackberry manager have a standalone desktop like the Palm has or do you need to use outlook to be able to access the adresses and tasks from the computer? I have the Earthlink mail program already on my computer and when i open Outlook it keeps trying to download the email to Outlook. I want to add/change addresses and tasks from the computer, so I can sync them to the Curve.

The Blackberry Desktop software does not have an address book or calender per se, but allows you to sync your Blackberry to popular PIM software such as Outlook. I use Outlook 2007 and it syncs well with my Pearl. I am not familiar with Earthlink mail, so I can not answer that part of your question. I have found that for keeping track of just addresses and phone numbers and other PIM info, Datapilot software works very well with my Pearl.
