Reading through a number of threads from other forums, it appears that people are nearly attacked for having the desire to disable the accelerometer for what ever reason. I believe that I have a very valid reason for wanting to disable mine.
I am an avid motorcycle tourer, taking 5000 mile tours across the country when ever I can get the time to do it. With todays tech, many motorcycle guys are taking phones, GPS, music, with them and mounting all sorts of stuff on their bike these days. While traveling, I also like to take those items with me, but by the time I am prepped to go, the front of my bike looks like a space ship. Bring in the Storm and the intent on combining every need into this one little amazing item.
I finally received my RAM Storm mount and took a short trip on my motorcycle. I never expected it (owner since Nov 08), but within a couple of miles, I realized that because of a motorcycle's handle bar vibration and the odvious fact that a motorcycle "leans" in turns, the Storm goes into portrait/ landscape fits. Because of this, any attempt at navigating with VZ nav or Google Maps are useless.
Would it be that hard for RIM or maybe an App to give users the capability? I'm not sure, but I would be first to buy the app if it existed.
There are a ton of motorcycle riders out there, and if this little phone would work properly in a motorcycling environment, news would spread like wild fire. There needs to be an option to off the accelerometer.
