Foreign Characters áéíúó on Verizon Blackberry SMS

It´s been concluded that the reason why one cannot send accented characters even when the Spanish or French language pack is installed (áéíóúñ´ç) on Verizon Blackberries (SMS and MMS) is due to something with Verizon´s network. This is interesting because other Verizon sold phones are capable of this. Blackberres on other networks are also capable of this.

Is there a workaround for this? Can VZW please update the network to do this? Blackberries are supposed to be smart phones. If the 19.99 pay as you go phones support this, shouldn´t a 400 dollar blackberry?
