My BB Curve 8520 will power down when it has 3 out of 5 "bars" of battery power left. I have replaced the battery twice. It is out of warranty. The software update did not help the problem. Do I just need a new phone?

I can imagine the frustration the battery life is causing! To confirm are you using the Blackberry Curve 8530? Have you attempted restoring the operating system through the Blackberry Desktop Manager? This will help clear corruptions that may be present on the phone.
