NO Discount to storm users!!!!

It blows my mind that verizon doesn't give storm1 owners some sort of discount on the storm2 after all we were the test dummies and had to deal with all the glitches and **bleep** that came with the storm1.  It just goes to show that Verizon just like any other company in today's world is driven by the almighty dollar and the customer/consumer is left with the great saying that everyone is so used to hearing "were sorry."

First of all, you have 30 days which is MORE than enough to try out a phone and you decided to keep it.  When you get a phone for a discount price, they make the money back from your monthly payments during the lenght of your contract.  So why should they give you another discount? or wait for annual upgrade or wait for your regular upgrade date.

I just find it funny when customers get new phones and use few months past their 30 days and expect to get another discount for another phone.  When you return a phone to them, they can not sell that phone as brand new anymore....so therefore they lose money.

30 day return policy works well for other products, but I'm not sure about phones....I've had the storm for about 6 months and most of the problems i've been having with the phone didn't arise until about 2 or 3 months ago.

How on earth can you think you're entitled to a discount to a new Storm just because you have the original. Do you expect to get a discount on a new model of car just because you had problems with the first? What about a laptop or desktop computer? Operating system? No. You shouldn't expect to get a discount on a phone just because you had problems with the first. Many people didn't have problems. Many did. So what? All Storm 1 owners got the OS 5.0 upgrade before Storm 2 release. It's the exact same OS on both devices. The only difference is the screen technology has changed and the inclusion of WiFi.

You're rediculous to think that a cell phone company is going to give you a discount on a phone just because you got the first model. Welcome to the world of technology.

Everyone has their own belief on this.  Me, I support BC and elv on this one.  Verizon should have tested the Storm 1 further before releasing it out.  This phone has major issues with it.  I have only had 1 or 2, very lucky compared to some.  This new software update is very nice although it has caused more issues for me to figure out.  The Storm 2 comes out less than one year after releasing the first one, this tells you the first one has issues and this is their admittance.  I agree with elv that 30 days is not enough time to tell if you like a phone or not that is crazy, 30 days ha.  It may be thirty days before you have any issues.  NMchile, you are comparing a phone to a car.  If the car is a lemon it is covered by law under the lemon law.  The phone may also fit into that category don't know haven't checked.  Maybe someone should.  Verizon should step up to the plate knowing they put out an inferior product and fix it to make their customers happy.  The customers that pay their salaries.  The new OS fixed some of it but also created other issues so that didn't work to resolve Storm 1 issues.  Sorry for this and you can say what you want back, I have broad shoulders, you make me laugh at your support for Verizon on this issue and your attempt to push this issue into some other realm of excuses (such as 30 days or if you bought a car you couldn't take it back).   :smileyvery-happy:

Remember the first generation of the LG Chocolate? Remember how terrible it was and how many issues it had. Remember that it cost about $150? When the 2nd one came out did the original owners get a discount? No.

The 2nd generation of any model of phone has ever been given at a discount to the first generation of users. This is not the way ANY type of company works in the technology industry. This has never been done in any type of 2nd generation (or 3rd or 4th) release anywhere. Did the original owners of the Xbox get a discount on the Xbox 360? No. It's never happened anywhere. How can you expect it to happen with a cell phone? Just because you've had a few issues? That's what warranty replacements, software updates and exchanges are for.

Many people have already had extensive use with the new OS 5.0 software and it's working great. Personally about had many hours with both the original Storm with 5.0 and the Storm 2 and both run great. It's the same processor and same OS. Like I said previously, the only thing that's changed is the screen technology and the inclusion of WiFi. With the new OS the original Storm is really like a completely new phone. The continuing issues that people are having with the original Storm are limited to small amounts. Small amounts when you look at the big picture that the original sold between 800,000 and 1 million units. Only several thousand maybe are having continuing issues. Give all of them a discount on the Storm 2? Okay. Your discount is $70. You can buy it for $179.99. How about that?

Every piece of technology ever created will always have issues, that's the very nature of gadgets. You will never escape this. Do some have more issues than others? Of course. But it never means you get a discount when a new one gets released?

And if you're so upset about the original Storm having so many issues and if you're having continuing issues even AFTER the software update, why on earth would you want to get ANOTHER Storm with the SAME software and experience possibly the SAME issues. Really?? Get a different Blackberry or go with a different manufacturer. Why are you running the risk of making the same mistake twice?

That is just technology for you.  Early adopters take a hit on everything, not just on phones or product reliability....price drops and other promotions also.

Want to be on the safe side? well, wait 6 months or more after product is release then do some research about that product and then buy it.  Because its not just 1 customer you are talking about, its 100's or even thousands that get hit with reliability, price drops, etc.

Want to be on the safe side....well there are credit cards that give you some perks/benefits that if you buy something and whatever store/company don't want to take it back you can just call your credit card and file a claim.  Plain and simple.

If you are so upset with the Storm why buy another?  Well, I would buy the Storm 2 with the hopes that RIM worked out all of the bad bugs with the Storm 1.  Not only will the board be better and it has Wi-Fi, it will also have the experience of what malfunctioned in the first generation Storm and improvements off of that.  While it has the same OS, internally it is different via circuitry and set up.  The OS is not to blame for all of the first generation issues.  There are other factors.  So, yes I would purchase the second generation in hopes they worked these bugs out.  Until we start hearing reports back from the users we will not know for sure though.  I would gladly accept a $70 discount from Verizon, at least it shows they understand the issues and support their program of dedication to their customers.

NMChile, didn't I read in here somewhere that you have a Storm and Tour?  Or did you switch from Storm to Tour?

I've never owned a Storm. I did purchase it when it came out but I returned it within my 30 days because I didn't like it. I have had extensive time using it however, as well as the Storm 2 though not as much as the original.

I bought my Tour in September. Previously I had a Curve 8330. Before that Pearl 8130. Before that 8830WE. Before that 7250. Remember those? Scroll wheel, blegh.

"Not only will the board be better and it has Wi-Fi" Yeah... wifi serves no purpose on the Verizon network due to the fact that you still have to purchase the $30 data package, so wifi is really only good for tethering, but you won't pay the extra $20 to $30 required for that because you'd be too busy signing my paychecks.

Here's a thought: not even Verizon employees get THAT big of a discount off phones. What makes you think you're entitled to a discount just because you decided to get the Storm? I realize it doesn't work half the time, but NMchileman is right. You don't pay my salary, my company does. You don't sign my checks, my company does. And I don't have to help you. If someone came into a car dealership (here's the analogy ^_^) and started complaining and demanding $700 off the new model of the car you previously bought there, the dealership would kindly tell you to leave their property. You got the new High Def TV and the new model came out this month, paper thin. Do you think you deserve a discount because you DECIDED to buy that a year before technology advanced? Nah... Oh, and by the way, I hold out my two-year contract I signed for. Verizon won't give you squat because your signature is on at least 5 documents stating you agree to this phone. HAHAHAHAHHA. Awesome. Quit complaining.

Lala, glad you mentioned Hi-Def TV.  I bought a Toshiba Regaza about 7 months ago.  The picture quit coming on but I had sound.  Took it back to Universal Electronics where I bought it.  They checked it out and determined I was right.  Well they did not have the same model in stock to replace this one.  Guess what?  I got upgraded to the next size model without having to pay more.  Isn't that a novel concept.  Keep your customers happy and they come back as I have done already.  I and you and millions of others do pay the salaries of the Verizon employee's.  Maybe the checks are not written by us, although our monthly billing fees and other purchases go towards their paychecks.  If people quit buying phones and didn't continue their contracts once up, do you think Verizon would have to lay off?  Yes they would.  Why?  Because they had no income to keep these people employed.  It's very simple try taking some Economic and Business classes you will understand.  Unless the Govt. bails them out that's another story

You can't use the WiFi on a Storm for tethering. It doesn't put out a Wifi signal, it only receives it.

@AzCellUser they only upgraded you to the next model because, guess what, they were out of stock!! Imagine that. And guess what? There's still plenty of stock for the original Storm. Once the original Storm no longer has any Certified Like New Replacement inventory left a similiar situation could happen. But until then: $179.99 please.

And that is wrong.  Why give me a certified replacement when the phone I purchased was brand new?  It may be used now but a person still deserves a new replacement in the one year warranty time frame.
Your right about the TV they were out of stock.  But....... they could have sent it in for repairs and then returned it to me.  Hey you anywhere around Espanola?

You bought it brand new and like you said at this point it's used. So why should you be able to trade in a used phone for a new phone? VZW already loses $300-400 for every CLNR device they're sending you. They would lose even more if it was a NEW device. Nothing ever gets traded from a used to new unless it's out of stock and there's no other option.

In Albuquerque. Espanola is probably about 100 miles north. Just outside of Santa Fe. It's already snowing up there.

Maybe if you weren't one of those replace-three-times-never-happy kind of customers the people on this forum that know what they're talking about would respect your idea. (thank you NMchileman for clearing that up for me)

Oh, and that's because your crappy tv is a Toshiba. Nobody buys Toshibas silly. And they didn't have the model. I'm talking about a whole new effing TV just because... You think because your Storm has issues (and any rep could tell you it sucks, but you probably bought it the first week it came out so you're automatically entitled to a discount right?), people need to bow to your every whim. LALA says no discount.

I don't pay my own salary, babe. That's kind of hard to do. I avoid Verizon TEE HEE. Customer Svc isn't that great. Well, go ahead and cancel your contract. Your ETFs will cover my salary for a week.

Econ, business? What are these things? I'm so ignorant I've never heard of these things in my entire life. Let alone sit in a classroom. BOOOORRRRINNNNG.

And everything is Obama's fault, right?

Lala, never have replaced my phone.  Had some issues when I first got it but worked through them.  Works fine for me, still working on the BBM/App. World issues it's all good though.  Guess I shot your pumpkin in the eye.
