New BB Pearl Flip 2230 - Degraded Reception

I've had a Samsung PDA Smartphone with Verizon service for 5+ years and broke down and bought the Pearl Flip 2230 this past weekend. I used to be able to send/receive calls at home. Now I have no service reception/bars at all. I would have thought a newer phone would have better reception capability. Is there anything I can do? Or should I take it back as I am paying big bucks now for no service at all? Other then that, so far I like the phone/features.

Step 1: Remove the battery from the phone while the phone is on.
Step 2: Wait 20 seconds and turn phone back on.
Step 3. Dial *228 option 1 on the phone
Step 4: Test see if work.

Do this in the area that your having issues. See if it impoves. if not Call customer care. You are correct your recpetion should not have changed that much.

Thank you Brother Grim...I did as you suggested and afterwards the *228 call failed to go through (still no service). Looks like a call to Customer Support....will advise.

OK, called Verizon Tech Support. He asked me to do the same procedure my "Brother Grim" suggested here earlier. I told him the *228 call failed due to no service....There was not much more he could do. I have 2 options:

1) Take the phone back and I'm out the $35 re-stocking fee

2) Wait till next week when they are supposed to transition over the Alltel towers to Verizon...coverage may be better then.

I went to the Alltel site and the maps are not user friendly (small and non specific to street/zip like Verizons map). It looks like my area is blue (service friendly). So I may hold on to see if service improves...if not, it's going back within 30 days.

If waiting a week won't put you outside of your 30day return period then I would say wait. If it does, or you'd rather not wait then you can return the phone and get a full refund. For just returns you should not be charged the $35 restocking fee, it's only if you get the device exchanged or return it and within 3 days purchase another one.

So you could even return it now, wait a week and buy another phone without the restocking fee.

If your echanging the phone for a replacement there is no charge. If you are taking it back to exchange for a different phone there is 35 restocking . However you can claim an exeption as it would be noted that hte phone was defective and the manager can elect to waive the charge.
