My phone had been radomly deleting from both my messages and call log. I had asked about it at Verizon the last time I was in one of their stores and the associate told me to go to www.rim.com and do an update on the phone.
When I did the 'check for updates' there were several listed including an OS upgrade. One of the option screens before actually doing the update asked about saving the phone data, which I was sure to choose yes. It actually took me several attempts to get the update installed successfully (phone kept shutting down), but it did end up completing successfully. However, now all of my contacts have been deleted!! Is there any way to get them back?

As a general rule of thumb you should always remember to backup your personal data (contacts, memos, sounds...etc) before doing anything major to your cellphone. You can do this everytime you connect to Blackberry Desktop Manager (BDM).
Now, with the OS update the BDM should have created an automatic back up for you (it should also have done a restore for you too, weird) so I would check some of your folders (MyDocuments) to see if there's a backup file in there. The extension is .ifo for the file you're looking for. If you can find it then you can use it to restore your info.
If the file was never created then unfortunately your contacts are lost.
But backup your data regularly using BDM and this will never happen again.

Definitely a lesson learned!! Thanks for the tip. Will check for the backup file tonight.
