I've only had my BB 8530 Curve for a month, so I'm still on a steep learning curve. One thing for sure, I DO NOT like the BB music player but so far have not found anything any better, so I'm struggling with using it.
First thing is creating a playlist. What a bummer - one song at a time from HUNDREDS copied to the handheld! What a bore. So, I created a one song playlist, plugged the BB in to my computer and using Windows Explorer (XP) copied the playlist to my hard drive.
I then opened the .m3u file with a text editor and noted the format of the one song entry. Since that time I've been MANUALLY creating and copying to the handheld MANY playlists. I use the DIR command in a music directory, piping the result to a text file. Then using the text editor (NoteTab Light) I block delete the info I don't need, change the SPACES in song names to %20, and add the file path info from my test file, such as :file:///SDCard/AEH%20Music/barbershop/ changing the "barbershop" to whatever playlist name I desire. It's been a real pain in the tush, but I'm 80% finished.
A remaining problem I can't find an answer to is how to select RANDOM songs to play from a playlist. It seems to be one at a time or all and if there's another method of selection I can't find it here, the BB forums or the user manual.
On my Palm Treo I used to use Pocket Tunes (pocket-tunes.com) but they don't have a version for the Blackberry operating system. Sigh...
Once your playlist begins to play, try to click shuffle. You should see it within the options menu.
HTH,
Thanks for the reply, Morgan. OK, I started a playlist and selected shuffle in the menu. Then what?
I want to play ONLY the first, third and fifth songs of the playlist and shuffle doesn't seem to let me do that. Doesn't shuffle mean to play all the songs in a random order?
Thanks again,
Big Al
I misunderstood your original question. I didn't realize you wanted to play only certain songs within your playlist.. NOT random songs in any order. I'm sorry, unfortunately there is not a way to play music the way you're attempting.
HTH,
