Post .148 screen freezing

i downloaded the new OS bout 3 weeks ago or so and it was a huge improvement over the 75.  but in the past 2-3 days my screen has been freezing up and going black with the green coverage led still flashing.  at first i just pulled the battery each time which was about every 1-2 hours.  but by happenstance today i was fed up when i saw it was frozed again and placed it back in my holster to deal with it later.  a few minutes go by and i heard i had recieved a text msg.  pulled it out of the holster and everything was fine.  i have since noticed the screen acting very glitchy, and whenever it freezes all i have to do is hold it next to my holster for a second then pull away and its back to normal for an hour or so b4 it happens again.  i found this very odd and decided to hard reset it by wiping it clean thru the security options.  i have since restored from DM and once again the screen is acting up. i am hoping for some help thru the forums here.  is it a problem or is it just time to stop by the verizon store after work and get a new one becuz the screen is nuked?

SORRY FOR THE CAPS BUT I'M NOT VERY HAPPY.  I HAVE BEEN WITH ALLTEL SINCE 1987 EVEN WHEN IT WAS "GTE".  I WENT TO ALLTEL WHICH IS NOW VERIZON TO UPGRADE OUR FAMILIES PHONES.  I GET THE BLACKBERRY STORM BECAUSE MY PREVIOUS PHONE WITH ALLTEL WAS A BLACKBERRY 8830, LOVED IT!!! SO NATURALLY I WOULD WANT ANOTHER BLACKBERRY.  THIS ALL TOOK PLACE 3 DAYS AGO. SINCE THEN I HAVE SPENT A TOTAL OF 7 HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH TECH SUPPORT. THEY HAVE RESET CHECKED MY SIGNAL, MADE TEST CALLS CUZ IT WOULDN'T RECEIVE CALLS. FINALLY GOT THAT FIGURED OUT AND IT WAS BECAUSE THE PHONE WAS "NOT" ACTIVATED, YEAH NOT ACTIVATED.... SO THEN THEY TELL ME THAT THE ACTIVATION WOULD TAKE ANYWHERE FROM 4-24 HOURS. MY QUESTION WAS WHY WASN'T IT ACTIVATED? THEY SAID THAT SINCE WE WERE WITH ALLTEL AND WITH THE MERGE THEY ARE WAITING FOR THE PORT OF MY NUMBER TO GO OVER TO VERIZON.  SO I'M NOW ACTIVATED BUT THE SCREEN LOCKS UP. I'M BACK ON THE PHONE, NOW THEY WALK ME THREW A HARD RESET???? SCARDE TO DO THIS BECAUSE THE PHONE SHOULD HAVE HAD EVERYTHING I NEEDED WHEN I LEFT. ME DO A HARD RESET I SAID TO THE LADY.  SHE SAID YES. SO WHAT ELSE CAN I DO? I CAN'T GET PHONE CALLS CUZ IT GOES STRAIGHT TO VOICEMAIL WHEN PEOPLE TRY TO CALL ME.  WHEN I MAKE A CALL IT HAS STATIC IN THE CALL, I TAP THE SCREEN AND IT LIGHTS UP BUT SOMETIMES TAKES ME WHERE I WANT TO GO AND SOMETIMES NOT.  THE BROWER ABSOLUTELY SUCKS.  WHEN I WAS FOLLOWING THE STEP WITH TECH SUPPORT LAST NIGHT SHE ASK ME TO GO TO A WEBSITE AND IT WAS TAKING SO LONG THAT IT FINALLY SAID CALL TECH SUPPORT UNABLE TO CONNECT TO THE SERVER.  SO WE DID THE HARD RESET AND UPGRADED THE PHONE TO THE NEWEST VERSION OF THE SOFTWARE AND I AM GETTING MY EMAILS, TEXT, MAKING AND RECEIVING CALLS.  BUT MY QUESTION IN THE BACK OF MY MIND IS HOW LONG WILL IT LAST AND WILL THIS PHONE HOLD UP FOR 2 YRS??? WHEN TECH SUPPORT TOLD ME THAT I HAVE 30 DAYS TO EXCHANGE THE PHONE TO MY SATISFACTION, I SAID YEAH I SURE DO WITH A 35.00 RESTOCKING FEE TO GET ANOTHER ONE THAT MAY HAVE THE SAME ISSUES THAT WILL PUT ME BACK ON TECH SUPPORT FOR SEVERAL HOURS TO BE WHERE I AM NOW BUT THEY SAID THEY WOULD BE HAPPY TO BILL ME THE 35.00 IF THAT WOULD HELP.... LOOKING FOR HELP ON WHAT TO DO EXCHANGE THE PHONE OR IS THIS ONE NOW GOING TO BE O.K.

#1 - don't apologize for using caps, and then continue to use them.  Caps are equivalent to yelling, and yelling never gets you anything when you're looking for help.

 

#2 - if everything is working now, then great.  Porting a wireless number like that usually takes 4-24 hours, but between big companies it shouldn't take that long.  A problem that may have happened with your service is that the number was ported, but you never programmed your Storm. Or if you did, then your old Altell phone wasn't turned off at the time, so the device was still registered as being active on the network.  I would suggest making sure the Altell BB is off by removing the battery, then - from your Storm - dial *228 and choose option 1 to program your phone again.

 

#3 - if you decide to take the phone back, then simply explain the situation and they may waive the restocking charge.  But if everything is working ok, then it would be looked at as either an account or network issue, not a device issue, so probably not. Also, if you're a VIP member (any rep can check your account) then the restocking charge is waived regardless of your reason for return.

Thank you for the information.  So far today everything is working great.  I guess the port and the *228 finally went together o.k.  How are the issues with your storm working out?

OP - I would suggest a wipe a reload of your OS thru DM.

 

and instead of restoring everything at once, do it one step at a time.  Restore your contacts and test.  If working ok, restore your calendar and test.  And so on and such forth.  reboot after each restored item.

 

then move on to 3rd party apps.  install an app, reboot, test.  if working ok, then move on to the next one.  reboot after each install.

 

it's just a process of elimination.  If your screen was truly fried, then it wouldn't work ALWAYS, not just sometimes.
