Hi,
I searched but found no information on roaming in Hong Kong.
When in China I have no problem placing and receiving calls, emails and texts.
I got to Hong Kong, have a very strong signal but cannot place or receive calls, emails or texts.
I sometimes get a message "call failed due to fading". What can I do?
Thanks,
Cris

I did some research and this is more than likely due to high call volume or lack of cell towers in the area in which you're trying to place calls. It's possible that it could be a phone issue as well but I doubt it. Try doing a soft or hard reset of the phone next time you are in the area and see if that doesn't help with the problem, but again it's probably network overload out there.

Justin,
Firstly, thank you for your service, we do appreciate it.
When I first arrived in Hong Kong several days ago, I did try the soft and hard restarts several times. During three days I did not receive any emails, texts or calls with the phone on almost constantly.
When I traveled to the mainland, I had perfect coverage and operation. Returned to Hong Kong and again could not receive anything. I do not think it's an overloaded network, but who knows.
Thanks,
Cris

I see you have an 8830 World Edition phone. The network in Hong Kong is GSM only while the rest of China is CDMA. So did you ever purchase a SIM card for your 8830? And if so did you have it activated before you left??
The SIM card is required for use while in Hong Kong. Sounds to me like you either don't have this installed, or don't have it activated with VZW.

No, I did not have a sim card installed. Obviously that's the problem.
Thanks

Just a couple more days. Probably not worth trying to have it shipped.
Guess I'll just enjoy some quiet time for a change.
