I have the BB Storm and recently pulled my battery out to reset the phone, but much to my surprise after rebooting the phone had the message "Uncaught exception: Index 13>=13" and NO SSM folder anywhere to be found. I unhid all the folders, changed the theme, pulled the battery out multiple times (and let sit,) upated the *282, etc. The phone will not even let me send out SMS to contacts only MMS. Any other thoughts short of plugging it into the computer to manage the desktop, I have never synced it to my computer and am trying to avoid doing so.
