Switching from BB Storm to BB Curve

I currently have the Storm 1 and am looking to downgrade back to my curve because honestly I can't stand the Storm.  I've had it for almost a year and have already had to replace it two times.  Once because the camera went out and wouldn't get out of camera mode even with a battery pull.  Second it kept rebooting without ever going to the home screen.  It did this for 4 hours even after a battery pull.  I am now on my third one and it is giving me nothing but problems.  It freezes a lot and yes I pull the battery out at least once a week like a rep told me to do.  It cuts off when it wants and reboots.  Overall it's just not living up to what I thought it would.  I don't download a lot of apps to it mainly for the fear of screwing it up even more.  I only use it mainly for texting, Facebook, Twitter, email, and the BBM.  I very rarely get on the internet because it freezes all the time.  I have done the OS upgrade (guess that's what it is called).

Now with the background explained my question is this: I came to Verizon right before Alltel switched everything over.  Mainly because I REALLY wanted the Storm and I got a good deal on the phone for switching.  I still have my Alltel Curve and was wondering if I could activate it and use it until my contract is up and I am eligible for an upgrade? I'm not eligible for an upgrade until Feb. 2011 and I just don't think I can deal with the Storm that long. And if I can activate it can I do so through the "Activate My Phone" on Verizon's website?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is not what you want to hear, but I have had my Storm 1 since August and it works great for me. Now that being said there is daily maintenance that needs to be done: Also what OS do you currently have?

The main reason a screen freezes is you are out of memory. This is usually caused by leaving some app open and it is still running. The other reason maybe some app you have installed is corrupting your phone. Do you know how to push the BB Menu button and then select switch application at the bottom of the list? When you do that it will show everything you have open. All that should be open is Phone, BBM, Home,World Globe (Browser) and email message folder or folders. If anything else is open push it and then using the BB Menu button open and scroll down to close option push that. Do that for every app other than the ones I have listed here. Also push the Internet one (Globe Icon) and then push BB Menu, then options then scroll down to Cache Operations. Push every thing in there including Clear History at the very top, then push the U-Turn button and it will say cleaning memory. How about Phone call log? Push green phone button, then at the top center push the phone icon with arrows coming in and out, and look to the bottom left and see the RED X click it until each phone number and name is removed. Now go back to Options Icon on home page and scroll down to Memory, then push it and scroll down to Application Memory Free Space and look at how much memory is available. Now pull battery and reinstall. Let everything get up and running and then go back to Options , memory and see what your memory has increased too.

The OS I have is v5.0.0328 (Platform 4.2.0.128) Is this not the latest update?

I had actually seen your post in another message pertaining to the Storm freezing up.  I went ahead and did what you instructed and it didn't free up any more memory after the battery pull.  It remained the same.

There is a unreleased version .419 from BB, but not Verizon. I have been running it for a couple of months with no problems. If you decide to do it be sure you back up your phone. You will need to go on crackberry to read about how to install a leaked version. The main two things besides backing up your phone is to remove the vendor from the downloaded software and how to go into the actual software where it is on your computer and to double click app loader to make it install. It will not show from the actual Desktop mgr.

If it fails on you, then you can restore the .328. Please let me know what apps you have and how much free memory you have? You get the free memory from pushing the Options Icon (wrench) an scrolling down to memory. Push it and then scroll until you see Application Memory. There will be a number there 20MB or 16MB or maybe more maybe less. Then after you do that pull the bat let it sit for about 1 minute. the put bat in and close door back and then push red phone button and it will re load itself and then tell me how much memory you now have?
