Time Zone auto change

SalesREP
Newbie

I just got my first two Blackberrys (swapped up for the Tour) within the past 30 days.  I have asked the Verizon sales agent a couple of times about the fact that the phone/device does not automatically switch time zones (like all the previous cell phones for the past 20 years).  The auto time zone change was very helpful in traveling my sales territory where I switch from Central to Eastern multiple times/where multiple direction choices switch back and forth.

(  I also use the alarm clock daily and almost lost an hour's sleep due to this lack of feature - last week)

I find it hard to believe that this technology is not available on such and advanced device.  Does anyone have a positive solution?

I am not aware of that feature being disabled. What I would suggest is when you get to the new time zone Dial *228 option 1 on your phone to update with the local towers :smileyhappy:

Amazingly enough the auto updates for time zones is not built into RIMs OS. This is flaw in all Blackberry devices. You can manually adjust the time zone by going to Options ---> Date/Time. RIM is currently in a testing phase for it's new OS 5.0, one of the new features is going to be an auto update feature. When will 5.0 get pushed out? No idea at this point. Could be soon, perhaps with the Storm 2 or could be next Spring. Unfortunately till then we'll just have to manually change it.

It should work fine as long as you have your options set correctly. Date/Time>Date/Time Source>Network. Worked for me when I flew to the the other coast two weeks ago, via Chicago. Changed both times. You may have a bit of a wait if your are, for example, driving across time zones. It may take a while to update. If you turn off the mobile network connection and turn it on again, it will force the update. Obviously this isn't a problem if you're flying because you do that anyway.

Best of luck.
