The Blackberry Tour (as well as any other Blackberry) is not available on Alltel plans, it does have to be updated to a Verizon Wireless calling plan with a Verizon Wireless data package. Sorry. 
I see that Sam's Club has the Tour for free today with a new or contract extension. I'm thinking of checking it out but don't want to have to change from my Alltel plan. Anyone know if I'll be able to get the phone through Sam's Club but leave my plan as it is?
I could just go check but it's 120 miles round trip, I'd like to have an idea before going.

As I recall, Alltel was bought out by Verizon and now should work on the same network.
That being said..... call the store and make sure.

If he were to use the Tour on an Alltel plan, a lot of features would not be available, such as VZNavigator, Ringbacks, VCast, and a few others. He would not be able to get the full use out of the Tour so that is one of the reasons a Verizon plan would be in order.

I checked it out. I was able to get the Tour and keep my Alltel plan.
Like someone stated I probably am unable to access the VZW specific features, VZW Nav, Ringbacks etc but I don't care about those features/wouldn't pay extra to use them anyway. So it's all good as far as I'm concerned!
