Using blackberry internet service

I recently moved to US from India and have taken a verizon connection. I am using a blackberry phone spared to me by relative.

I had to subscribe to a 30$ data plan. But when i try to browse the net on the phone it says "It is a wifi service"

Without wi-fi internet does not work.

Than what is the use of this data plan?

The phone model is 9550.

I have dialed to customer support and it informs that my package does not inlude mobile web. Than what for $30

Yes, your phone will have Internet service without Wi-Fi because it will use your 2GB data plan instead. It sounds like you're not properly connected to a BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) plan, but a customer service rep will correct that for you. The reason for calling from a different phone other than the BlackBerry is because tech support will need to do some work on their end. If you can't call from another phone, you can stop in a Verizon store too.
