VZ Navigator Version 5.0 Available for Blackberry

Anyone else try the new 5.0 VZ Navigator version? Version 5.1.0 on my BB Storm 1. Not sure which all Blackberry models its available on now. Word is that it will be available to all VZ Nav capable phones soon. I had to go to the VZ Home Today homepage from my BB Browser to download the newest version. Forgot to check the Application Center from the BB Homescreen. The check for new version of VZ Nav while running VZ Nav said I had the latest version.

I love the new interface, especially the scrawling, customizable banner that you can add weather, gas prices, movies, entertainment, etc. However, I don't understand why the Home and Work favorite buttons are missing from the Navigate window. Now I have to click Select Destination and type Home or Work. That's not efficient or safe because I used those two more than any other favorites when planning return trips from unfamiliar places.

There's a cool feature that allows you to update your location on your Facebook Status page too. Plus, I can save a preference to exit the app by pressing the End (power) button. But yet it still asks me if I want to exit. Yes, I do! Arrghhg!

This must be for OS v. 5.0?  The download on my start page only tries for 4.1.

Sounds like some really cool features, but it doesn't look like those of us with 8330's will be able to partake anytime soon.

Hey,

The 8330 should be added to the list very soon.  The basic features are the same.  The main handy features are the places like gas stations, resturants, movie rental places, theaters, etc stream across the main screen.  Also, your current location is on the home screen.  The Facebook thing is pretty cool, if you are into FB.  All in all, not a bad update.  I just wish the maps would update.  My street is not on the map.  My neighborhood was made just after Hurricane Katrina, so I guess it takes time.  At least Domino's and Fed Ex can find my house, LOL.

Installed it today on my Tour. Got two error messages; "VZ Nav has verification issues" and "VZ Nav has run out of memory". Uninstalled it, reinstalled it and it loaded this time then I got the same error message "verification issues" and then it froze for about 5 minutes. Pulled the battery and let it reboot and it erased all my personal information! Brilliant! I needed to do a wipe of my phone anyway, but sheesh. I'll stick to navigating with a map and the sun/moon/stars. Thanks VZW.

You should always 'Sync with Web' before deleting the app. It will back up all your recents and favorites

I downloaded 5.0 this morning on my Storm.

My frustrations are:

1.  I cannot save addresses to favorites.

2.  I cannot edit my home address.

3.  The blackberry button seems to give me no options where there used to be many.

Any hints for the above?

The voice recognition works well.

Hi,

Not sure.  I tried all of the tasks you have mentioned above and they worked on my Tour.  Perhaps deleting the app and rebooting and reinstalling will fix it.

Every thing works for me except the Voice things. Do I need to press 1 for English or lose my southern accent.

Hey,

The Voice feature works good on mine, even with my Mississippi accent.  All you have to do is hold down the Green send key on your phone to record what you want to say, such as a street name or business, and it will do a search.

Hi, Does VZ Navigator cost $9.00 a month? And does it let you know what traffic accidents are ahead of you?

$9.99 a month on the BlackBerry. Yes, VZ Nav alerts you to traffic delays ahead of you. Based on those delays, you can detour your route.

You should be able downgrade to verision 4.2 from the Application Center on the BB Homescreen or by using the BB  Desktop Manager software.

Scratch that above. The App Center says a downgrade is available but when I actually try to download, it says version 5.0. Also I can only uninstall from the BB Desktop Manager. :smileymad:

Yes, I cannot understand why, as paying customers, we are not able to choose between the old version and the new VZNav.!!!!:smileymad:

Unfortunately, without any options, I too, had to CANCEL my VZNav. service. I definitely DO NOT need more social site access!! I definitely DO NOT need a ticker tape scrolling through the middle of the screen. Please don't shove this info in my face. I can search for whatever I need to look for...

I definitely DO need gps coordinates in longitude and latitude!! and I DO need options and a warning would have been nice before I downloaded an IRREVERSIBLE PROGRAM. :smileymad:

PLEASE GIVE ME BACK THE OLD VERSION! I USED IT EXTENSIVELY AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY! DOESN'T VERIZON WANT ME TO USE ITS NAVIGATION SERVICE AGAIN?!

When looking at a map of the address you would like to make a favorite click the BlackBerry Key and select 'Add to Favorites'

To Edit your Home Favorite Go to  Find>Address>Favorites> Bring up a map of the Favorite and select 'Add to Favorites' this will allow you to edit your favorite then Select Save

Good Luck

I downloaded the v5.0 of VZ Navigatior the other day. (02/10/2010). I tried today, and it's better than before. The VZ Navigator can be set to follow you, wherever you are going, in moving vehicle. But trying to figure out the address thing.:smileysurprised:

I made the mistake of downloading Version 5.1 to my Storm 2.  All I can say is DON"T DON"T DON"T.  . . . .

It is the most buggy, defective piece of software with the most horrible user interface I have used since almost forever!  On almost every screen the only menu option is close or exit - and the back button doesn't work on most screens! You have to close the application and go back.   It often and randomly can't even find the GPS, even though all other Aps do, with as many as 10 sattelites available! And when that happens, it crashes.

It is totally useless!

Unfortunately, once you upgrade the only option is to cancel the service - which I am doing.

Hi,

I don't have a Blackberry, but I was having the same issue with favorites on my LG Dare and thought I would share what I figured out.

To add favorites in Navigator 5.0, you can do it two ways:

1) Use an internet browser to go to http://vznavigator.vzw.com/main.html to manage your favorites online

2) In Navigator, follow these menu choices from the main screen:

Find>Address>Recents>View>Menu>Add to Favorites

Definitely not intuitive, but there you go!

Anyone else having problems deleting Favorites in version 5.0 from the device? I can only find Delete All but not individually. To delete my Favorites, I have to log in to the VZ Navigator web site from my PC, delete them individually, and then sync up. Not user friendly.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I used to have the option to delete Favorites separately from the device when version 5.0 was released. I know I definitely was able to do that in previous versions. Now something has changed? Is this possible anymore, or am I missing the menu option? I have the Storm 1.
