I just upgraded from a Curve 8330 to the new Bold 9330, and I am surprised the battery only lasts 12 hours before needing a charge. I only check emails and take a few pics, no gaming or intense use. Is 12 hrs normal, because I am used to phone batteries lasting a few days??

Touchscreens tend to take more battery power than regular screens; I've found with my Bold 9650 (non-touch screen) that a battery pull increases the amount of time between charges for the first couple of days after (I do a battery pull about once a week).
