BB Storm Update & Facebook Missing...But Not Missing!

I updated the software to my BB Storm.  Facebook app needed to be reinstalled, so I did that.  It shows that it is installed, but I cannot not find it anywhere.  So I deleted it, the icon showed up, but had to be reinstalled.  Reinstalled.  Icon gone again.  The app list shows it as installed, but if its there, its GONE.  I checked hidden icons, couldn't find it there, either.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

When you delete it the icon will remain because that's a link to download the app again. Sometimes it shows up in the Applications folder, or check the Downloads folder. Make sure you have Show All checked while viewing. If it's in the list in Options>Applications it's gotta be somewhere.

It indeed shows up on the applications list under "options" but I cannot find it anywhere.  I have made sure "show all" is checked, I have checked every folder--the icon truly isn't there.  It is bizarre.

Hi,

Try this...Go to Email Settings and open that.  Then press the Menu key.  Select Service Books.  Then select Resend Service Books.  See if that gets you fixed up.

From the home screen with all your icons displayed hit your menu button and select Options. This will show you what folder you have selected for your downloads. Any downloads you do should go in that folder.

me too! having the same problem, and getting extremely frustrated.

I've called tech support and been to the store as well. No one seems to be able to help. They just keep telling me to reinstall the update, which still isn't working!

Hi,

I have one last suggestion.  If you were like me, you downloaded Facebook from within Blackberry App World.  Try to download it from your Blackberry browser or from your desktop.  Go here for the link at Blackberry's web site.

I have the same issue. An hour on the phone with customer support didn't get me anywhere. I tried doing the update on a Mac through the Blackberry Desktop Manager for Mac if that is of any significance. Extremely frustrated. Also, on restarts, I get two error messages which support seemed to thing had something to do with these: an Uncaught Exception java.lang.NullPointException and Uncaught.exception: java.ling.Error.

Please let me know if you come up with a fix for this.

I had the same problem when I upgraded from my mac.  I re-installed the update from my Windows laptop I use for work and it worked just fine: no start-up errors and facebook was back.  It must be a glitch with the mac desktop manager.

**bleep** is the deal with Verizon and their blackberries. This latest update has been like a little inside joke among the Verizon bigwigs. First off, it ruined my bluetooth compatibility with my GPS, and like the rest of you, it has done something with facebook.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled at least 8 times, from both BB browser and App World. I have tried deleting it through App World, Options/Applications and through MDM (mac desktop manager). None of that has provided an answer. I tried accessing the internal system files to see what directory Facebook was being installed to, but there is no access to these data with the new update. I believe that before the update I had Facebook in a directory that I had created, which was not compatible with the update. Thus causing Facebook to appear lost when it is just hidden in a folder that no longer exists. But who knows. There was a few days when trying to install the FB app, I was getting a message saying that my phone was not compatible with the current OS version. This happened for both v1.7 and v1.6, where now I only get that message when attempting v1.6.

I just tried reinstalling (reloading) the update through MDM and I was struck with something like this:

"There was an error updating your phone. Update was not completed."

Followed by these messages:

Uncaught exception: Missing resource net.rim.device.apps.internal.resource.crypto.KeyStoreBrowser

Uncaught exception: Java.lang.NullPointerException

Uncaught exception: Java.lang.Error

And still, Facebook is missing. BTW, I was also getting the uncaught Java errors that were mentioned in an earlier post, but i was having them before the update when facebook was working.

Has any one found a solution to this problem?

The only way I got this to work was by installing the update from Windows Blackberry Application Loader.  It overwrote the mess that the Mac Blackberry Desktop Manager software left behind and everything worked just fine, including facebook.  I recommend trying to install from a Windows machine if you have access.

and what's your suggestion for those of us who don't have a Windows machine to do that on?

Hey,

I know a lot of folks have been having various problems with the upgrade.  I'm not sure about the difference between upgrading with a Mac or with a Windows machine.  One thing I would do if you can't get it running right would be to go to one of the Verizon stores to let them do it.  I know it's a hassle having to go there and all, but you may try calling to see if you can make an appointment.  I don't know if they would do that, but it won't hurt to ask.  I know a lot of you are banging your heads on your desk in frustration, but I thought I would make at least that suggestion.  Sorry I could not offer more.
