This is my first BlackBerry, and within the first week, I had installed the accompanying CDs not knowing if I needed the features.
The DeskTop Manager has become my worst enemy. It takes forever for my computer to boot up each morning because of it. It's like having new spyware on my computer. In only one case, it actually seemed to check for updates and download them to my device (still, I don't know what is needed and what isn't). I've found it easy enough to move files from my computer to my device without the DTM. I'm not interested in syncing my agendas, etc. I just use my phone for sending and receiving e-mails, including .PDF and Word documents, and talking on the phone. Everything else is just peripheral.
So, the question is, can I safely uninstall BlackBerry DeskTop Manager? I thought I was smart enough to remove it from my computer start up menu, but can't seem to remember how to do that.
Thanks for any advice. I have a few more questions, but they can wait.

Hi,
Sure, you can remove Blackberry Desktop Manager. In Windows, go to Start>Control Panel>Programs:Uninstall a Program. Click to highlight Blackberry Desktop Software 5.1 and select Uninstall/Change. Follow the prompts to uninstall the program. You will then need to restart your computer.
From the sound of it, you really don't need Blackberry Desktop Manager. If you decide to update you device's operating system software, you will need to reinstall the program. Feel safe in knowing that BDM does not contain any spyware or ads. However, if you think you system will run faster without it, then proceede to uninstall. Good luck,

You do not have to delete the desktop program to keep it from loading when you start your computer. You can select from within this program called http://download.cnet.com/Startup-Inspector-for-Windows/3000-2086_4-10452094.html
If it blocks the web site, then just type in Startup inspector for windows in you computers browser. It's free and you can cut down on a whole lot of items that are probably running at startup that you don't need at startup.
