BlackBerry Storm Unfamiliar Display

On my BlackBerry Storm, When i'm on a call, i look at the keypad display, and right below the volume digits display, is a square with 5 small x's in it. What does this mean, and how do i get rid of it, or what? I didn't seem to notice it before.

I cannot duplicate it on my Storm, but I would pull bat. wait 30sec and reinstall and be patient, it will take a while to come fully back up. If it doesn't start the timer within say 60sec., then push the red phone button 1 time and the timer should come on. You need to do this at least 1 time a day to free up phone memory, mine increases by at least 10 MB when I do it.

Every time i notice something new on my display, i like to find out what it is for. I called verizon customer svc, they said to bring it in for svc.  but i know it's something minor. But even though it doesn't have a big effect on my Storm, i still want to know what it is for. Today, i was out of town and made a call & it was gone! I come back home and made a call, it came back! Where is it where you can see a picture of what the Storm looks like, when you are on a call?
