I recently bought the storm and i was downloading some of the free of applications. I noticed weatherbug had a free application so I pressed to download it and all it says is "starting download". It has said this for the last 8 hours. I have tried shutting the phone off, taking out the battery to get the app to stop downloading and it won't stop. Does anyone know how to get the app to stop doing the "starting download?" Thankyou for your help.

Hi, Jennifer,
I assume you are downloading that app via Blackberry App World. Try this...go into the App World and go to My World, where you see the program that says that it is still downloading. Press the Menu key and log back into your PayPal account and it should reset your download. Let me know if this does or does not work.

I just did that and it says, "No applications are assocatied with your My World account." I never set up my paypal account on the storm, so i thought it was funny it said that. Its just weird because the other apps downloaded just fine and this one said Free so I didn't think I had to pay for it. Even if I do its okay, but I'd like it to stop downloading already. My only option now is to go back to the store later and have them figure it out.
If you have anymore solutions I'd appericate it. And thank you for your help.

Jennifer,
The only other thing I can think of is to go to Options>Applications and highlight the Blackberry App World program itself and press the Menu key and delete the program. Then pull the battery to reset your phone. After you are back up and running, reinstall App World and see if it works correctly. Let me know how it goes.

Jennifer,
One other thing I'm sorry I forgot to mention. Try to download the Weatherbug app directly from WeatherBug's website. I am thinking the version of the app on Blackberry App World may be for version 4.5 Blackberry OS and not for your Storm's later version. Their web page has a direct link for a PC download. Good luck.

I've done both of the suggestions you said to do and neither one stop the weatherbug app download. It still says "starting download". Dumb question, am I going to do need to get a new phone and is this "starting download" really downloading anything? Is it hurting the phone?
I really do appericate all your help.

Hi Jennifer,
I am sorry you are still having problems. Just curious about one thing. What version of Blackberry App World did you install? I have a Tour and in the Application Center folder that came on my Tour, it lists Blackberry App World as an available download but it is version 1.0.0.30. This is an older version and has a few bugs. The latest version available direct from Blackberry's web site is 1.1.0.15. This version works good for me. Just wanted to know which version you installed.

Thanks once again,
Jennifer

Hi,
I am sorry we could not get the problem fixed for you. I had the same problem on my previous phone a Blackberry Pearl with a previous version of App World. I remember that they came out with an upgrade soon afterwards and if fixed the problem. My suggestion would be to only use App World to see what apps are available and go to the vendor's site to download directly from them. I did read in Blackberry's forums a lot of people are having the same problem. Obviously it is not your phone, but a software problem. According to a lot of the forum users, it happens mostly when they were downloading free apps on App World. Maybe they will correct the problem.
Sincerely,
Doc

Jennifer that is what I have for my versions and I had no trouble Downloading Weather Bug and nothing was ever asked about my paypal account. All I did was press the icon for App world, and then clicked thru the different programs and downloaded the ones I wanted that were free. The only one I had trouble with, was Amaze which never would work right, so I finally removed it. So you have the latest software and OS. I have has Pandora freeze a few times.

Hey,
I am curious about one thing. I really think the problem is with PayPal. Even though the free apps are free, I wonder if it messes up or causes a glitch in App World if you try to download free apps and not have a PayPal account set up? Just curious about that. I wonder if Jennifer sets up a PayPal account on her App World, if that might straighten out her problem.

Do you have it installed now? The store is a great source I found if you call ahead and ask if there is an EE there who has a Storm or if they have a tech support person there. I showed the EE there how to go in and set music eq. He didn't know you could do that click media and then music then BB button then options. You can also turn on Bluetooth for music to be played from storm thru your cars Bluetooth here. I am using a Motorola T505 in my 98 Lincoln and it works great. Also you may have to turn on GPS activator for the Weatherbug. I had the guy in the store help me remove AMaze and it re booted after it was deleted completely. Re boots take awhile. Bye, going to lunch now.

App World only requires you to use a PayPal account for purchasing apps. It does not require you to set one up when you install or use the App World for browsing apps or downloading free ones. I was just curious if the App World software may have a glitch in it where it is in a loop looking for the user's PayPal information to reconcile the My World part of the service. I just was curious if Jennifer set up a PayPal account if it would reconcile her account and her download problem would fix. I'm just guessing on what may be the problem.
