Does anyone know if a Bluetooth software patch is available for the Tour to interface with a BMW?
I recently upgraded from a Motorola RAZR to the BlackBerry Tour on the Verizon Wireless Network. My new Tour is amazing, and I'm glad that I waited so long to choose this particular PDA to help me organize my busy life.
I own a 2006 BMW Z4. Shortly after receiving my Tour, I went to my BMW dealer to have them pair the Bluetooth, which I had custom installed in my car when I purchased it three years ago, with my new phone. Much to my dismay, I discovered that I can either have my car radio or my Bluetooth -- but I can't have both. Unlike the RAZR, my Tour currently is not compatible with my Z4's Bluetooth. The dealer told me that the Pearl is the only BlackBerry currently supported by both BMW and Verizon Wireless for Bluetooth capability.
Since I live in New Jersey, and it is a primary offense to speak on a handheld cellphone while driving my car, I need Bluetooth capability. I checked with various individuals at Verizon Wireless, and they offered the following suggestions:
1) Trade in my Tour for another phone,
2) Purchase a different vehicle that has Tour/Bluetooth compatibility,
3) Purchase a Bluetooth to wear in my ear, or
4) Contact Research-In-Motion (RIM) as to the date the Tour software interface will be available.
Neither of the first two suggestions are viable. Having waited so long to switch from the RAZR to the Tour, I'm not about to switch to another phone, plus I love my car, so the second suggestion definitely won't work either. I seriously am contemplating the third option, as it is probably the best solution at the moment. The fourth option has been a bit disappointing to date. I contacted RIM via e-mail, and received a standard e-mail stating "Sorry, we can't respond directly to your request." However, RIM did suggest I check with BlackBerry Forums, so here I am.
Thank you, in advance, for your help.
You can do what I did and get the Motorola T505 BT speaker that mounts on your visor and will play thru radio on an FM channel. Look to eBay or Amazon. rtail is around $79 but you can get it for around $39 to $49
