RIM doesn't have plans for a full launch of OS6 until the second half of this year and the start of 2011. When RIM decides it's okay for a full launch then you have to wait for VZW to test and approve it. You'll be waiting awhile. At least the next 4-8 months.
So.....don't hold your breath.

Its gonna be Oct according to a unnamed VZW source. And RIM is not in control, they send the OS's to the carriers with the appropriate OS6 compatible devices (ie 9700, 9100/9105, 9650). Then the carriers brand them and test them until its approved. We already know that VZW has had the OS since 2 months ago. So they are ready to release, they are just a bit slow on releasing. But it should be oct, sadly. VZW likes to release big OS upgrades with new devices, and the odin refresh is... OCT.
Any VZW rep wanna clarify or enlighten us?
Hope this helps,
Andrew

I got the alert on my desktop software that an upgrade was available - to get OS6 - so should I download it or not? Thought I would come here to see if anyone loved/hated it first...you know kinda like when Windows releases a new OS...do I wait til the bugs are worked out, or get it now?

Are you sure that upgrade wasn't for the Desktop Manager 6.0 software? I don't think that OS6 for the Bold has been released yet. I just checked with my phone update function and it was not available. FYI, I like the new DM6 software, it is easier to use (bluetooth capable) and has more features.

Well Spiral...I could swear that it was OS6 but I will have to look into it to be sure...of course I am sitting here now and not getting the alert (figures!) so I'll have to be patient and wait for it to come back up...

I can assure you both that it's not the update for BB OS6. The update notification you got is only for Desktop Manager. This release has been widely documented and reviewed. You can confirm this on Blackberry.com/Desktop
As far as the OS itself... check the standard gamut of tech blogs (BGR, Crackberry, Engadget, Gizmodo). They'll post info about the OS6 release long before you see it officially from VZW. So keep your ear to the grinding stone.
It's my prediction that OS6 will be released for the Bold/Storm 2 around October/November. So I'm not holding my breath.

So if I wait till Christmas, or January (for my NE2) to get the Bold, it should come with OS6?

I wish I knew redwizard6 - but like the previous poster said, they are probably right in saying Cmas or early 2011 if Verizon's history is any indication....guess I'll just be patient and hurry up & wait!

Yeah, wanting to upgrade and interested in how well OS6 works on the Bold. Wish VZW would start putting out the new BB's that ATT and Sprint have with OS6! Thx!

Hi,
I think Verizon will put out a version of the OS 6 as soon as RIM fixes some of the bugs in the software. I tried the 6.0.0.222 leak for the Bold 9650 and it has problems, most notably with the PTT. The latest leak, 6.0.0.280 is even worse, especially with the radio file, causing a fluccuating signal. I think as soon as RIM fixes the problems, the 6.0 will be released officially for those devices that can handle the upgrade. For now, I installed the 5.0.0.975 on my Bold and it runs very well. No signal problems or any other problem that I can see so far. I would recommend upgrading to the .975 if you have not done so yet. You will see an improvement in signal, especially compared to the .732 OS.

Its redwizard6 here...forums said I dont exist so I had to start over. Ok Installed OS 6.0.0.333 in my Bold 9650. Love it. More consistant service,ie..more bars more often.. browser is Wowser compared to os 5. faster smoother. Just over all better performance. Very happy and have been running it for 5 days now. No freezes, no need for a battery pull for any reason. Easy enough to find and install if you want to try it......only thing...none of my themes written for 5 work in 6!! LOL btw got it at www.blackberryforums.com

I gave up on waiting about one or two months ago, bit the bullet and installed the leaked OS 6.0.0.280. I have never looked back. It works fine, boots much faster and the browser is a big improvement (which was the motivating force to make the switch).
I think that the amount of hype has been totally ridiculous. Sprint got out there first with their official release, and I am sure that Big Red has other more important things that they are interested in. They sure aren't interested in those who have been waiting so long for an official release.
So now Skype is touting that it can be installed on the 9650, but so far, no luck, despite trying all of their recommendations. Of course someone will say "well reinstall 5.0 and it might work". No point in responding to that hypothetical.
I have contacted Skype support and I am waiting to hear back.
I guess while I am waiting for the official 6.0 to come out, it is a good time to go shopping for one of those fine Android or Fruit products on a different carrier where they seem to be more responsive to the existing customer base.

Yeah 7100, the browser was my motivating factor for installing 6.0.0.333, and it is great, but I'm really surprised at the overall performance improvements and it just feels better. Can"t understand why Verizon is dragging it's feet on this one!! They are just falling farther and farther behind and alienating loyal customers in the process. I've been a loyal customer for many years and for the 1st time, and seriously rethinking my commitment to Verizon.
