Blackberry Messaging Only Plan?

question, why is it necessary that you need a doctors note or special paper to say you are deaf and your allowed to use the smartphone messaging only plan for 54.99, but with the 34.99 dumb phone one, you don't need any proper file to say you are?

just curious.

i didnt have any issue getting the messaging plan but i did have to sign and pay the first month of a voice plan so if you can swallow the first bill verizon DOES NOT state anywhere you have to be deaf or need a note i simply went in and informed the salesperson i want to change my plan to the messaging only plan because it still saves 30 bucks paying per minute than the excessive charge of a voice+data plan. i had the lady call and double check it was what was advertised and that is unlimited text and internet plus the .25 a min . if someone is telling you this go to another store and try if not throw a fit because you are being lied to by the salespeople there ...again there is no where that states you need anything other than a phone that works

  • * Customers who sign up for the $54.99 Nationwide Messaging plan for Blackberry and Smartphone, which is designed for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, must provide proof of their hearing loss in order to be allowed on the plan. Customers must bring with them to a Verizon Wireless Store or fax to Customer Service one of the following:
  • A letter indicating that they are hearing impaired on appropriate letter head from their audiologist, hearing health professional, speech or language therapist, physician, surgeon, vocational rehabilitation agency counselor, teacher, or credentialed therapist, or
  • Their membership card for the National Association of the Deaf, Hearing Loss of America, AG Bell, Association of Late Deafened Adults, Telecommunications for the Deaf, Inc or other similar group:
    • After the proof is received, the $54.99 plan can be added to the account for that specific device.
    • The proof is not required to be kept, but should be noted that it was received on the account.

The $34.99 plan does not require proof.  For more info on the $34.99 message only plan click here  http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/splash/messagingplans.jsp.

so i called to ask about this, the lady btw very sweet :smileyhappy:

but she had no idea that those plans were out there so she wasnt very aware of this.

she said if it said on there that you needed proof, then that's what you needed. so still a bit lost about this?

dont understand why on the 34.99 plan you don't need proof, but on the 54.99 plan you do?

lol because they dont mind losing 20 bucks of inflated charges but on a smartphone it cuts the bill almost in half for the cheapest voice plan. most family physicians will be glad to examine you and in 9 outta 10 people our hearing isnt perfect IE...."impaired".... so ask them to write that down for personal use they wont ask why or tell them you need need to justify your boss having to yell at you to your coworkers..people this is america land of equal chances if they think its ok to double your bill for the same service on a nicer phone then i say its ok to take what little stand we can against big red.
