Blackberry as phone only?

Was wondering if anyone knew if it is possible to use a blackberry curve 8300 as a phone only (regular plan, no blackberry service). I no longer have need for real time email access but really like the functionality of the BB, specifically pulling people up by any part of their name, and the qwerty keyboard for texting.
Please let me know, Thanks!

There is a carrier or 2 that allows you to have a BB without the data plan. Not sure if I would go that route, but I know people do. Verizon, I almost certain, does not allow you to have a BB without the Blackberry package

If you have a BlackBerry device on your acct. A BlackBerry data feat is required. RIM requires the service in order for your device to receive the volumes for it to work correctly. This is not a policy of your Provider but RIM.
