Blackberry vs Water

You always read about 2 year olds doing the darndest things... well... mine can be added to that list. He submerged my Blackberry in a glass of water. We took it apart, used a hair dryer on it and it's now sitting in a pan of rice. What sucks is that this morning we were going to back up my contacts and stuff... *sigh* Anyone have any suggestions, good stories to make me feel better? Thanks!

Sorry to hear the news...

I was dog sitting for my brother and sister in law and I had my BB 8703 fall out of my shirt pocket and into the dogs water bowl.  Needless to say, I followed a similar path to you, but lost the battle and finally broke down and picked up The Storm.  I had really been holding onto my $ 100 credit, but had no choice....And I had one of the good ones, although this new software upgrade is causing my Storm to freeze and it's not making me happy, but I know they'll figure it out...they always do

Good Luck!

:smileysurprised: JS, I hope now you have a holster to put the Storm in. You can get them on eBay or Amazon for under $10 the OEM BB model that has the magnet in it to put it to sleep while it is in the holster and you can still via headphones listen to music. If a call comes in, it will also ring to let you know. :smileyvery-happy:

If you have an OEM BB Holster, it auto goes to sleep, there is no option to select. You can set your phone to ring or not when in holster, or vibrate for both phone and emails or messages.

Word to the wise. Using a hair dryer is the worst thing you can do in this case. While it may seem like a good idea the heat from the hair dryer (even on the low setting) can do more damage than good. The best thing to do is leave it in a bag of uncooked rice for 24 hours without touching it and only trying to turn it on after that 24 hours.

What do you mean you opened the blackberry?  If you mean anything more than the back cover (battery/TF card/SIM card access), then you probably shoud of stopped right there, do you have any sort of warranty or insurance on the blackberry?

The best thing to do in that situation is to let it sit in the uncooked rice for 24 hours, and if that doesn't work, take it to a Verizon Wireless location to have your blackberry replaced, if you have the blackberry insurance through Verizon, you should be able to get a replacement either for free or a very low cost (compared to the $500 you would have to pay for a replacement without insurance
