Blackerry Storm compatibility with Windows 7

Why can't I get my Blackberry Storm smartphone to connect to my Dell XPS 15 computer? I am running Windows 7 64 bit. I have been on the tech support pages of Microsoft,  and Blackberry. I have tried many times to install the phone. I have the latest version of the desktop manager from RIM. Someone please help me.
