Although told (and sold) that my Blackberry Pearl would be able to use the upgrade to the international data plan - beware! There was never a consistent connection, and forget EVDO... the usual procedure required me to pull the battery, replace it, wait for it to boot, and then - for a brief few minutes - have access to e-mail, internet.... only to lose it again. Happened in Beijing, Xian, Guilin, Shanghai... very frurstrating. Sometimes turning off the Mobile Network worked, but that required waiting about 2 minutes to turn it back on - again, crazy-making.
Yes, I had some data usage, but what a pain it was to actually use it... not explained when ordering the international package. I wouldn't depend on it again. And yes, Verizon has to use the Chinese networks, but they need to advise you of the on-again, off-again nature of the connection and how unreliable it really is.
