Hi, I bought an unlocked blackberry here in south Africa. I can access the internet but cant get bb services. Vodacom advises me to ask verizon to detach my cell phone from the US network so that they can attach it to a local network....please advise.

Hi Zmcapetown,
Congrats on your new device! In order for us to update the device in BIS you would need to be a current Verizon Wireless customer in the U.S.. My apologies you would need to work with your current carrier Vodacom to have the device released in the BIS. You can also contact Blackberry directly for assistance http://bit.ly/1snUiZo .
Thanks,

BlackBerry devices that use BIS, which are all BlackBerrys before BB10, can only be associated with one BIS account at a time. The original owner is the only one who can get his carrier to release the device from his account. Until he does that you won't be able to get any data services.
BB10 models like the Q10, Z10, Z30, and Q5 do not use BIS. They get their data directly from your carrier just like any other smartphone.

You would need to call Verizon support and ask for BlackBerry help. They'll get you sorted out.
